僕と英語の旅

英語って旅みたいなものだと思うんです

Why I Went to the US. -Ep.2-

f:id:Carrera96:20210928004541j:plainGot the 1st place on a national exam.

Although I gave up on learning English once when I was 5 years old, my curiosity toward English was still alive.

And then, when my middle school started, "English" was newly added to our subjects.
(To tell you the truth, my elementary school had an English subject, but I never understood what was going on during the session because the class was taught only in English, not in Japanese at all. So I don't count it as a subject this time.)

Studying English was incredibly interesting and exciting to me, of course, because I was longed to learn the language since I was five.
This experience enabled me to study English so hard, but it never felt painful unlike studying math... .

Also, it led me to get full marks on a national exam once which meant the 1st place in Japan. This propelled me to study harder and harder, but again, it never brought me any pain because the harder I studied, the more ways of expression in English I could learn.

During high school...

By the time I went to high school, my passion towards learning English had gotten much bigger than which I had in middle school.

So, even during other classes, I was focusing on building vocabulary.

As soon as my club activity at school finished, I went to "juku (cram school)" and worked on learning English.
This helped me a lot to be brave to make a decision of studying abroad, the US.

However, it did not take that long to face an obstacle, pronunciation.

Though I loved studying English, I never practiced pronunciation.
So I could not make a difference between "R" and "L sounds at first.
Another trouble was to learn natural intonation. It was completely different from Japanese. Therefore, I tried to watch some movies and dramas in English, but it wasn't easy.

Reached a turning point...

Right after I entered high school, I was planning to go to university in Japan.
So natural, and a normal Japanese high school student, right?

And there was no chance I knew that I would make up my mind to go to the US for collage, at this moment.

To be continued....
